The popular Zebra ZD421D comes in several variants. You might not be sure exactly which variant you need for your situation. We are here to help!

First, let's take a closer look at the different terms:
Resolution: the resolution is determined by the DPI (dots per inch). Simply put, DPI refers to the quality of the text and images you want to print. The Zebra ZD421D is available in 203 & 300 DPI versions. If you are mainly going to use the label printer for creating shipping labels, the 203 DPI version is suitable. If you want to print extremely sharp, high-definition images, you should opt for 300 DPI.

USB: a USB connection is standard on the Zebra ZD421D. The USB connection allows you to easily connect the label printer to your computer or laptop.

Bluetooth: the Zebra ZD421D has a standard Bluetooth connection. This allows you to easily pair the printer with your computer or laptop via Bluetooth.

Ethernet: an Ethernet connection allows you to link the printer to your network. This way, you can print from any device connected to that network.

Direct thermal vs. thermal transfer:

Direct thermal is the most common variant. Direct thermal means that you can print without ink. Text or images are printed by heating the print head. This method is suitable if you are going to use the label printer for shipping labels.

Thermal transfer uses an ink ribbon to print on the label. The advantage of this is that the labels remain legible for longer. This is particularly useful for shelf labeling, product identification, and registration.

Which Zebra ZD421D do you need?

The most frequently used variant is the ‘standard’ variant. It prints via direct thermal, features USB and Bluetooth, and has a resolution of 203 DPI. Ideal for printing shipping labels!
