BLOG - Datalogic Skoprio x40-45

The new Datalogic Skorpio X40 and X45 are designed for fast and efficient work in warehouses, manufacturing, and logistics. But what exactly is the difference between the two models, and which version best suits your workflow? Discover everything about the features, scan ranges, keyboards, and the choice between Wi-Fi and 5G.

Do you work daily with order picking, inventory management, goods receipt, or other logistics processes? Then you want a mobile computer that works quickly, feels comfortable in the hand, and fits the way your employees work.

The Datalogic Skorpio X40 and Skorpio X45 have been developed for intensive daily use in warehouses, manufacturing, and transport & logistics. You can choose from various keyboards, scanning ranges, and configurations. The most important difference between the X40 and X45? In addition to Wi-Fi, the X45 also features 5G.

But which version do you need? And why is this new Skorpio series interesting?

Built for a full workday

A mobile computer in a warehouse is used all day long. Employees are constantly picking it up, scanning barcodes, and entering data. You want the device to be comfortable to work with.

That is why Datalogic has paid significant attention to a compact and balanced design for the Skorpio X40 and Skorpio X45. The mobile computer is suitable for one-handed use and designed for tasks where speed and accuracy are important.

Think, for example, of:

  • Order picking
  • Inventory counting
  • Goods receipt
  • Stock replenishment
  • Material registration
  • Internal goods flows
  • Production and logistics

This way, the Skorpio supports employees throughout their entire workday without becoming unnecessarily complicated.

Why still use physical keys?

While many mobile devices today primarily use a touchscreen, Datalogic deliberately continues to use physical keys on the Skorpio X40 and Skorpio X45.

In a warehouse, that can be a major advantage. When you regularly enter quantities, locations, item codes, or orders, physical keys provide clear feedback. You can feel what you are pressing and enter data quickly without having to rely on an on-screen keyboard.

Depending on the model, you can choose from 29, 39, or 48 keys.

  • 29 keys for primarily numerical entry
  • 39 keys for numbers and extra functions
  • 48 keys for more extensive alphanumeric entry

This allows you to choose the keyboard that truly fits your work processes.

Handheld or Pistol Grip?

Not everyone uses a mobile scanner the same way. That is why the Skorpio X40 and Skorpio X45 are available as Handheld and Pistol Grip versions.

Do you use the mobile computer alternately for scanning, viewing information, and entering data? Then a Handheld is often convenient. This version is compact and easy to carry. Do you scan a lot of barcodes in quick succession during your shift? Then a Pistol Grip might work better. The handle and trigger make it easier to continue scanning quickly.

Which version is best depends mainly on how intensively and in what way you scan.

Standard Range or Long Range?

You can also adapt the scan range to your work environment.

With Standard Range, you scan barcodes at a short to normal working distance. Think of products, boxes, pallets, and location codes that are within reach or at a limited distance. Do you regularly need to scan barcodes at a greater distance, for example on higher warehouse racks? Then Long Range is more interesting.

This means employees have to walk toward a barcode or reposition themselves less often.

See immediately if a scan was successful

The scanners support Datalogic Green Spot.

After a successful scan, a green confirmation appears directly on the barcode. That may sound like a small detail, but in a busy warehouse or a noisy production environment, it can be very helpful.

You don't just have to rely on a beep; you see immediately if the barcode has been registered correctly.

Skorpio X40 or Skorpio X45?

The Skorpio X40 and X45 are largely built on the same platform. The main difference lies in the connection.

Datalogic Skorpio X40: The Skorpio X40 is intended for work that mainly takes place within a Wi-Fi network. Thanks to Wi-Fi 6E, it fits well into modern warehouses, distribution centers, and production environments. If you work almost exclusively within a company location with good Wi-Fi coverage, then the X40 is usually the logical choice.

Datalogic Skorpio X45: In addition to Wi-Fi 6E, the Skorpio X45 also features 5G. This makes this version interesting when employees also need to stay connected outside the local Wi-Fi network. For example, when work takes place between different locations or when employees in transport and logistics also work outside the warehouse.

In short:

Ready for modern warehouse software

The new Skorpio series runs on Android 15 and uses the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM4490 platform.

With 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, there is plenty of space for business applications used daily in warehouse and logistics processes.

Think, for example, of software for:

  • Warehouse management
  • Order picking
  • Inventory management
  • Goods receipt
  • Material registration
  • Production processes

The device is therefore not just intended for scanning barcodes, but for giving employees access to the information they need throughout the entire process.

For warehouse, production, and logistics

The Skorpio X40/X45 can be deployed in various sectors.

  • Warehouse and retail distribution: Use the Skorpio, for example, for order picking, inventory counting, goods receipt, and stock replenishment.
  • Production: In production, the mobile computer can be used for material registration, kitting, inventory processing, and tracking parts during various production steps.
  • Transport & logistics: For logistics processes, the Skorpio supports the processing and registration of goods. The 5G connectivity of the X45 can be particularly useful when employees are not always within range of the local Wi-Fi network.

Developed for intensive use

In a warehouse or production environment, a mobile computer has to endure more than a regular smartphone.

The Skorpio X40 / Skorpio X45 is therefore developed for professional and intensive use. The housing is built to withstand impacts, drops, dust, and temperature changes, among other things.

In this way, Datalogic combines a compact size with the durability needed for daily use on the work floor.

Managing multiple devices?

Do you use multiple mobile computers within your company? Then centralized management becomes increasingly important.

The Skorpio X40 / Skorpio X45 supports Datalogic Mobility Suite and Datalogic Connect. This allows organizations to configure and manage devices centrally.

This is especially interesting for companies that use multiple scanners across different departments, locations, or shifts.

Which Skorpio fits your work process?

Due to the different configurations, the choice can seem quite extensive at first. Yet it becomes a lot simpler when you look at how the mobile computer will actually be used.

Ask yourself mainly:

  • Do you only work via Wi-Fi, or do you also need 5G?
  • Do you scan at normal distances, or regularly further away?
  • Do you want a compact Handheld or a Pistol Grip?
  • How many physical keys do your employees need?

Do you work entirely within a warehouse with good Wi-Fi coverage? Then the Skorpio X40 will often be sufficient. Do you also need 5G to stay connected outside the Wi-Fi network? Then the Skorpio X45 fits better.

This way, you don't just choose the version with the most features, but the one that actually fits your work process.
